Summer Leslie Gray

Summer at Play

  • It's great to just watch Summer at play…
  • She loves books and spends a lot of time with them.
  • Sometimes she reads them herself.
  • Sometimes she brings them to us to read.
  • She can get fixated on certain toys, wanting to figure them out.
  • She can concentrate pretty hard when needed.
  • She always seems curious about us.
  • She loves to go for a ride in the laundry basket.
  • You often find her climbing into strange places.
  • She'll just sit there…
  • And play.
  • She often works in some relaxation time in her chair (but we bribed the dog.)
  • She finally figured out the peek-a-boo game.
  • She makes sure we don't get more sleep than strictly needed.
  • She loves to tell us about her day.
  • She enjoys seeing the sites.
  • She can usually entertain herself, for a bit, while we work.
  • She is already learning from Grandma. (That can't be good!)
  • She forces us to put this too-small hat on her head.
  • Perhaps she likes it because Mommy made it.
  • Oh, and there was recently an ice cream incident…
  • Daddy swears he is innocent, even if that is his ice cream on her cheeks.
  • Most of all, Summer is a happy girl who shares that with us.

I know I've gone a long time between updates this time. Sorry about that! Work has me jumping.

To make up for it, here's a ton of great Summer moments captured on film that show how she it changing…

Our Little Cinderella

  • She queued up Amazing Grace on the iPod before she started here.
  • She cries when Mommy has to stop her vacuuming help to reach a tricky spot.

Summer observed the cleaning crew at one of Dad's conferences. Since then, she is obsessively polishing every surface of our house. At first, I was thrilled to have this new child in my home, but it's gotten serious enough that I'm considering turning myself in for a violation of the child labor laws.

Attending Conferences

Daddy took a break from his conferences when Summer was really young, but it's time for everyone to get back to work. That meant two short trips in November.

How does Summer spend conference time? With feats of strength, of course!

Little Red Riding Hood

  • Little Red Riding Hood it is.
  • She chose well, because she's the only Red I saw this year.
  • Like my basket? It was Dad's idea. He's smart! (I just know she thought that.)
  • Summer with her trick or treating friends: Cookie Monster and Cat in the Hat.
  • The kids relaxing after some early trick or treating.
  • Summer didn't know why, but she led us house to house to get more candy.

We gave Summer her choice of a couple of costumes that would fit her for Halloween this year. I think she made a classy choice.

The Pumpkin Patch

  • What do we do here guys?
  • Well, you can ride ponies.
  • Is she pointing to show the pony where to go?
  • Like our twins? We didn't intentionally coordinate uniforms.
  • I guess connor didn't get the Green Shirt Day memo.
  • Some visitors got to play in the sand.
  • Summer, you can choose a pumpkin to take home…
  • Any pumpkin? How do I pick???
  • These are great!
  • The Moms with their kids. (And Dads with their cameras.)

This year, we took Summer out to the Pumpkin Patch with her friends. It was a great time.

Forbidden Toys

  • This is what fun looks like.
  • No children were harmed in the taking of these photos.

Remember all those toys we decided are too dangerous for kids? Well, Mommy found one hidden away somewhere and just had to let Summer try it. Yeah, we're free range.

Like a Grown Up

  • She likes to eat with a fork, like Mom and Dad do.
  • Oh course, she'll take shortcuts when it's not working out.

Summer can't wait to be a grown up. If she sees us do it, she has to do it. This applies to just about everything.

Her Chariot

  • This was the first time Summer wanted to ride with Dad.
  • This has become their morning ritual, as soon as Dad is up.
  • Yeah, she can climb up all on her own, whenever she wants.

Summer has a new way to get around and her Daddy sure loves it!

Meeting Betty Joe

  • The best part: Summer got to meet Betty Joe.
  • Isn't there suppose to be food up here?
  • I'm not sure I want to eat… Mmm…
  • OK, more of that!
  • Now I see why we came, the food rocks.
  • Mom, we have to check out what's out here.
  • Look at all of these toys!
  • Like this toy.
  • Oh, and you can eat it.
  • This is great!
  • Uh Mom, I think these girls want something from me… Help.

The Hall family gathered for some food and conversation this October. It was great to see everyone and let Summer play around.

Popsplosion

  • Yes, we were sitting at the table when the bomb went off.

When we saw Summer carrying closed pops out of the pantry, we thought, "Oh, how cute." Chalk that up to a lesson learned the hard way!
